Football players are a common part of America’s society. Although they are common, they are not always understood. I am interested in this particular ethnology because I want to break through the typical stereotypes and find out what is really occurring on that big green field, under the helmets, and behind the face guards. At a glance football and football players may just seem like a game and I intend to investigate further.
Football players are seen as celebrities or at least popular by most Americans. They are seen as big guys, with broad shoulders and bulging muscles. They date cheerleaders and have large egos. They are in shape. They eat large quantities and pick on kids smaller than them. They are stinky, sweaty and athletic. Football players are stereotyped as some what dim witted, and some believe they even receive preferential treatment. They work out, play hard, like to fight, and are favored by teachers, girls, and parents. Football players are the cookie cuter male American.
