Many Americans like to grab a pop, a hot dog, or some snacks and bundle up to join, family friends and community members on the cold bleachers that overlook the football field. Not only do people like to support and watch the people close to them; but, they go to enjoy the competitiveness of the game and the teams. Football is a sport that is believed to have originated in the 12th century in England. Some believe that it originated even earlier from the ancient Greek game “Harposton”. Football has always been seen as a rough, somewhat brutal game. Actual professional football started back in 1892. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association was formed. On October 19th 1873 a meeting was held with representatives from Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Rutgers and the rules for football were set. Before that time each school had their own set of rules for football. Football has progressed from the original game, to one of America’s favorite past times.
